What Is Polymer Door Coating
The entrance door is one of the most important functional elements of a house. Meanwhile, it plays an important aesthetic and practical role in design improvement: it protects from various weather changes, and also helps to complete the interior decoration of the hallway. Modern factories produce a huge variety of entrance doors that differ in size, material, fittings, color, and style.
Among this variety, steel models are in the greatest demand. They have a lot of advantages: they are durable, burglar-proof, and fireproof. So, a person and his property are always completely safe behind such a door. To improve the appearance, as well as to protect against corrosion and other mechanical damage, steel doors are coated with special substances. Polymer is among the most popular types of coatings.
Front Door Polymer Coating — What Is It?
Polymer door coating is the most popular method of metal processing, widely used by large door factories. In this case, the main role of the polymer is the reliable protection of steel from corrosion. Besides, such coverage looks quite expensive. Entrance metal doors coated with polymer powder are always reliable, durable, resistant to mechanical damage and various climatic factors, therefore they serve for many decades without losing their impeccable initial appearance.
The method of powder-polymer coating consists of applying a special powdery substance to the surface of the canvas and then baking it at a temperature of 200 °C. At high temperatures, the multi-component powder melts, evenly covering the entire door surface. The standard coating thickness is 0.3 millimeters.
The polymer powder contains various components of natural and artificial origin: resins, pigments, fillers, and hardeners that provide excellent quality properties of this material. Unlike usual paint, polymer does not contain chemical solvents, therefore it is more environmentally friendly.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Polymer Coating
The main advantage of polymer-coated metal doors is their increased corrosion resistance for many years. Other advantages include:
- high level of strength, wear resistance;
- long service life without changing the original factory characteristics;
- broad color palette: bronze, copper, golden, silver, green, blue, burgundy, black — there are a lot of color options, for every taste of the buyer;
- affordability.
Thanks to the fast production process, buying custom-made polymer-coated doors will not take much time in production.
Being abrasion-resistant, polymer powder coating has many advantages, but it is not an ideal solution. Like other types of coatings, the polymer has some drawbacks that should be taken into account when installing this type of entrance door.
Metal entrance doors covered with polymer do not tolerate direct exposure to moisture. Rain and snow falling on the surface of the canvas contribute to the rapid rusting of the metal and deterioration of the original properties of the product. To protect the door from increased moisture, it is recommended to install a sunshade or any other canopy. By taking proper care of your polymer-coated metal door, you will extend its successful life for decades.
